Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has shared heartwarming photos from his recent visit to Akwa Ibom, where he spent time with children as part of a youth development programme.
Posting on his social media handle on July 1, 2025, Ekong reflected on his involvement in Camp NexGen, an initiative by Olympian Idara Otu’s foundation, Let Girls Read Run Grow.
“Loved collaborating with Idara Otu’s ‘Let Girls Read Run Grow’ to bring Camp NexGen back home to Akwa Ibom,” Ekong wrote. “An amazing initiative celebrated by its 5th edition in Uyo. A testimony to Idara’s consistent success inspiring the next generation, a vision we share at the Troost-Ekong Foundation.
“A BIG thank you to all 150 kids whose enthusiasm unknowingly left a long-lasting impression on my family and I.”
Troost-Ekong, who was born and raised outside Nigeria, spent part of his holiday in the country and participated in various activities, including a charity match in Lagos and the grand finale of his U15 Boys Football Tournament in Akwa Ibom, where Blessed Stars Academy emerged as champions.
During his time in Uyo, the football star was also received by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, alongside Idara Otu, who continues to engage and uplift youths in the state through sports and education.
With his visit now concluded, Troost-Ekong has returned to Europe with his family, leaving behind memories that many young participants in Akwa Ibom will not forget anytime soon.
