Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has opened up about his decision to join Arsenal after leaving Chelsea this summer.
The 29-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Real Madrid, was signed by Arsenal after they activated his £5 million release clause. Kepa has agreed to a three-year deal and will offer experienced backup to fellow Spaniard David Raya at the Emirates.
Speaking for the first time since the move, Kepa said:
“I’m really happy to be here, really excited and looking forward to what is coming. The ambition this club has is clear. When I spoke with Mikel Arteta and Inaki Cana, I could see how much they want to win. I believe we’re very close to achieving something big.”
Kepa originally joined Chelsea in 2018 from Athletic Club for a world-record fee for a goalkeeper at the time—£71 million. He played 163 matches for the Blues and won several trophies, including the Champions League, Europa League, and Club World Cup.
He spent last season at Real Madrid, helping them win both La Liga and the Champions League.
Now at Arsenal, Kepa says he’s ready for a new chapter and hopes to play his part as the Gunners push for the Premier League title.
