West Indies batter Shai Hope is set for a return to Test cricket after nearly four years, having been recalled for the upcoming three-match home series against Australia beginning June 25 in Barbados. The series marks the start of West Indies’ new World Test Championship cycle.
Hope, who last played a Test in 2021 in Sri Lanka, joins a squad that sees a mix of experience and fresh faces. Young batter Kevlon Anderson has earned his maiden call-up, while Brandon King has also been included to bolster the batting lineup against Australia’s formidable pace attack.
Head coach Daren Sammy emphasised King’s selection as part of a strategic plan to strengthen the team. However, veteran pacer Kemar Roach has been left out, with fast-bowling responsibilities now resting on Jayden Seales, Alzarri Joseph, and Shamar Joseph. Roston Chase will lead the side.
“I believe in this group of players,” said Sammy. “We want to make our home grounds a fortress and need our passionate fans behind us. The road will be tough, but we’re ready for the challenge.”
