Victor Osimhen could soon join a new club, with Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal making an official offer to sign the Nigerian striker from Napoli.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that Al-Hilal are close to agreeing personal terms with Osimhen and have now made a €65 million bid, plus €5m in add-ons. This is just below his €75m release clause.
Osimhen, 26, has been linked with Premier League teams like Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea in the past. But his high wage demands have made it difficult for English clubs to sign him.
Instead, clubs in the Saudi Pro League have taken the lead. Al-Hilal, who recently missed out on signing Man United’s Bruno Fernandes, are keen to land a big name before the Club World Cup later this month.
Al-Hilal are offering Osimhen a €30 million-per-year contract and expect a decision by the end of the week. Talks with Napoli are not expected to cause problems.
Last summer, Osimhen was a top target for Premier League teams. But when no one could meet his salary demands, he joined Galatasaray on loan for the season.
Osimhen did well in Turkey, and interest from English clubs picked up again recently. However, most have now moved on. Chelsea, for example, just signed Liam Delap and are in talks with Eintracht Frankfurt about another major transfer.
Even Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel has said Osimhen probably won’t be going to Stamford Bridge.
Manchester United dropped out of the race after missing out on Champions League football, and Arsenal are now looking at other strikers like Benjamin Sesko.
With fewer options in Europe, it now looks like Saudi Arabia will be Osimhen’s next stop.
