In a chaotic clash at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Paris Saint-Germain progressed to the 2025 FIFA World Cup semi-finals with a 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich, despite finishing with just nine players.
Both sides entered the game as top contenders. PSG had defeated Messi’s Inter Miami 4-0, while Bayern beat Flamengo 4-2. From the outset, PSG looked the more dangerous, though Bayern held good passing play.
Early in the match, Desire Doué came close, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia fired a shot into the side netting. Fabián Ruiz also missed a great chance, ballooning his shot over the bar.
Bayern’s Michael Olise looked poised to score, but Gianluigi Donnarumma made a stunning save. Kvaratskhelia forced another fine stop from Manuel Neuer, although a penalty appeal was turned down when he was fouled by Jonathan Tah.
As the game drew on, both sides had chances – including Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala – but none found the net.
The breakthrough came in the 78th minute, when Doué caught Neuer off his line, calmly slotting home from just outside the box.
Five minutes later, Bayern were reduced to ten men when Willian Pacho received a red card after a reckless tackle.
With Bayern struggling, PSG sealed the game in style. Achraf Hakimi crossed the ball for Ousmane Dembélé, who finished clinically to make it 2-0.
Neuer had denied Dembélé minutes earlier with an impressive save, but in the end PSG held firm. A late VAR check wiped out a Bayern penalty appeal after Nuno Mendes appeared to foul Thomas Müller, showing just how chaotic the match was.
Despite the dramas and heavy tackling, PSG showed resilience to secure their place in the semis.
