Six England batters were dismissed on a duck during its first innings against India in the second Test in Birmingham, the joint-most in Test history.

This was the ninth time a team had six batters fall without opening their account. India was the last team to create the unceremonious record, against South Africa in Cape Town in 2024.

Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Ben Stokes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue and Shoaib Bashir were the batters who did not trouble the scorers. Mohammed Siraj was the wrecker-in-chief, picking six for 70, alongside his new ball partner Akash Deep who to claimed four wickets.

Despite six ducks, England ended up scoring 407 runs, thanks to Jamie Smith’s unbeaten 184 and Harry Brook’s 158. The duo recorded a 303-run sixth wicket stand - second highest for England for that wicket.
