WTC Final 2025: The Proteas and Aussies have announced their playing 11 for the upcoming World Test Championship final, which will be played between South Africa and Australia on the 11th of June 2025 at Lord’s.
Australia, the defending champions from the previous WTC cycle in 2023, have once again advanced to the top two teams in the World Test Championship points table. Australia has made it to the WTC final after having won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, followed by another series win against Sri Lanka on their home soil.
South Africans’ played their last test series of this WTC cycle from 2023-25 against the Pakistan side as the home side Proteas overpowered the visitors in the two-match red-ball series. The South African’s have starred in the semi-finals of the World Cup of 2023 and then followed with a final in the T20 World Cup of 2024 and the semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025.

South Africa announces playing 11 for the first-ever WTC Final
The Proteas have opted for a team that looks regular and balanced, with no surprises awaited in the final big stage at the one-off test, which will be played at Lord’s. Unaware of the playing conditions at the iconic venue, Cricket South Africa hired legendary English paceman Stuart Broad as their bowling advisor for the WTC Final.
Openers: Temba Bavuma and Aiden Markram
The Protea skipper Bavuma has backed himself with some great form, and he has been in the best of touch himself, while Aiden Markram has received wide recognition for his immense contributions with the bat in the IPL as well and is expected to be a significant player in South Africa’s success in the WTC final.
Middle-Order and All-Rounders: Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, Kyle Verrynne, David Bedingham and Wiaan Mulder
Wicket-keeper batsmen are those who are part of the South African middle order, as Rickelton, Stubbs, Verrynne, and Bedingham all all known as full-time wicket-keeper batsmen. These players in the middle order have been the backbone of the Proteas’ batting unit, and Wiaan Mulder has made some significant contributions lower down the order.
Bowlers: Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi
The three fast bowlers for South Africa will be Marco Jansen, the most lethal and in-form bowler in the unit, as he also averages stunningly at Lord’s. While Kagiso Rabada returns to the side after a brief injury, Lungi Ngidi makes it to the South African red-ball 11 after there has been a huge trial of several pacers, including Dane Peterson as well.

The Aussies have also named their World Test Championship final playing 11, as there have not been many changes from the previous team that played in the WTC Final of 2023, which Australia won. Aussies have just two changes: David Warner retired from international cricket and has been replaced seemingly by Beau Webster at no. 6, and Josh Hazlewood, deemed fit, has been brought back, replacing Scott Boland.
