Guide to everything that you need to know as Scotland host Iceland at Hampden Park in an international friendly.
This friendly comes after Scotland were relegated to League B after suffering a shock aggregate defeat to Greece in March’s Play-Offs.
Team News
Scotland have a full squad available for selection, with Robby McCrorie, Cieran Slicker, Josh Doig, Connor Barron, Andy Irving, Lennon Miller and Kieron Bowie looking for their first senior caps.
Iceland will be without Orri Oskarsson due to injury.
When is Kick-Off?
Scotland host Iceland at Hampden Park, Glasgow, on Friday 6 June at 7:45pm BST, live on BBC One Scotland and BBC iPlayer in the UK.
Stat Attack
- This is Scotland’s first friendly meeting against Iceland, although they have won all six previous meetings in this fixture (W6).
- Iceland have lost all three visits to Scotland (L3), including a pair of 2-1 losses in their last two trips in March 2003 and April 2009 respectively.
- John McGinn has scored in two of Scotland’s last four matches (W3, L1).
- Oskarsson has scored in three of Iceland’s last four matches (W1, L3).
Prediction
Having held a slim lead over Greece following the first leg of their play-off, Scotland simply imploded in the second leg with some awful defensive play especially down their left whilst they lacked much of a clinical edge so a big improvement is needed here.
Iceland meanwhile have won just one of their last seven matches and are missing an in-form player in Oskarsson so need other players to step up amidst a defence which looks quite vulnerable on current form.
I however do think that Scotland will go strong initially to try and produce a reaction to their last home performance, and I can see such a move paying off if the Tartan Army can find a way to play their best football again.
Prediction: Scotland 2-1 Iceland
