Tennis star Aryna Sabalenka has said sorry to Coco Gauff for comments she made after losing to her in the French Open final earlier this month.
Sabalenka, from Belarus, was beaten by Gauff in three sets in Paris. After the match, the world number one said it was “the worst final” she had ever played and claimed Gauff only won because of her mistakes.
Now, just before the Berlin tennis tournament, Sabalenka told Eurosport that what she said after the match was not right.
“It was completely unprofessional of me,” she said. “I let my feelings take over and I really regret it.”
Sabalenka is the top player in Berlin this week and might play against second seed Gauff again if they both reach the final.
