Roundup of Quarter-Final action at 2025 UEFA Under-21s Euro as semi-final spots hung in the balance.
With group stage action over, attention at 2025 UEFA Under-21s Euro turned to the business end of the tournament with four massive Quarter-Finals, which saw plenty of goals and comebacks amidst red cards.
Portugal 0-1 Netherlands
Netherlands overcame a 21st-minute red card for Ruben van Bommel to snatch a 84th minute winner through substitute, Ernest Poku, after the forward put away Ian Maatsen’s overhead pass which caught Portugal’s defence unguarded.
Spain 1-3 England
Early strikes from James McAtee and Harvey Elliott saw Carsley’s Young Lions eventually prevail 3-1 over Spain in a rematch of the 2023 final, as Elliot Anderson’s injury-time penalty confirmed their semi-final spot after Javi Guerra’s 39th-minute penalty had offered Spain hopes of a comeback.
England’s win meant that they would meet Netherlands in the opening semi-final on Wednesday 25 June at 5pm BST in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Denmark 2-3 France
Mathys Tel sealed a comeback win for France with a 85th-minute winner over Denmark, having twice equalised from behind through Djaoui Cisse and Quentin Merlin after Clement Bischoff and Oliver Sørensen twice put the Danes in front.
Germany 3-2 (AET) Italy
Merlin Rohl curled in a 117th-minute extra-time winner to fire Germany past Italy in a tough tie which was settled by his strike from Nathaniel Brown’s pass.
Comeback goals from Nick Woltemade and Nelson Weiper saw Germany come from behind to lead Italy following Luca Koleosho’s opener, only for Giuseppe Ambrosino’s 96th-minute free-kick to force extra-time for the nine-men Italians following red cards for Wilfried Gnonto and Mattia Zanotti.
Germany will face France in the second semi-final on 25 June at 9pm CEST (8pm BST) in Kosice, Slovakia.
