Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic has suggested that his recent semifinal defeat to Jannik Sinner at the French Open might be his last appearance at Roland Garros.
Although Djokovic confirmed he is preparing to compete at Wimbledon, he admitted he is unsure if he will return to the French Open next year.
The 37-year-old was beaten by top seed Jannik Sinner on Court Philippe Chatrier in a hard-fought match. After the loss, Djokovic spoke about the special atmosphere and hinted it could be a goodbye.
“I don’t know what tomorrow brings in my career. Wimbledon is next. But twelve months is a long time at this stage of my career,” he said.
“Do I want to play more? Yes. But will I be back here in a year? I honestly don’t know.”
Djokovic is the last active member of tennis’s ‘Big 3’, with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal having already retired – Nadal stepped away from the sport in October 2024.
Now, Djokovic carries the legacy forward on his own, while facing rising young stars like Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. He currently holds 24 Grand Slam titles, tied with Margaret Court for the most in history, and is chasing a record-breaking 25th major.
The road, however, is getting tougher, and Djokovic knows the competition is fierce. With Wimbledon next, the Serb will test his strength and determination once more – this time on the grass courts.
Whether or not this was his final match at Roland Garros remains uncertain, but Djokovic’s comments have left fans wondering if they’ve seen the last of him on Paris clay.
