Liechtenstein meet Scotland in an international friendly to round out the season as both teams look to bounce back from defeats.
Liechtenstein are looking to end a six-match winless streak after losing to Wales in their World Cup Qualifier, whilst Scotland seek a win to reignite their momentum heading into their World Cup Qualifying campaign this autumn.
Team News
Liechtenstein have no fresh injury concerns to report after their 3-0 loss to Wales on Friday evening.
Scotland will be without Angus Gunn and Robby McCrorie due to respective ankle and strain injuries, which has necessitated the call-ups of Ross Doohan and Callan McKenna.
Kieran Tierney and Scott McTominay will also miss the game due to unspecified injuries.
When is Kick-Off?
Liechtenstein host Scotland at Rheinpark Stadion, Vaduz, on Monday 9 June at 6pm CEST (5pm UK Time), networked live across BBC Two in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Liechtenstein have lost each of their two previous meetings against Scotland (L2), although this is their first friendly match.
- Scotland won 1-0 on their only previous visit to Liechtenstein in October 2011 in UEFA Euro 2012 Qualifying (W1), of which both teams failed to qualify for the main tournament.
- Liechtenstein have conceded three goals in two of their three matches in 2025 (L3), across which they have conceded eight goals in total across those three defeats without reply.
- Scotland are looking to avoid suffering three consecutive losses for the first time since a four-match losing run between June – October 2024.
Prediction
Although a 3-0 loss away to Wales might suggest that Liechtenstein were humiliated comfortably, it wasn’t the case in reality because they dug in defensively to make life difficult for a dominant Wales who just had the natural final touches to get the win.
With three goals conceded in each of their last two matches and increased scrutiny on Steve Clarke, Scotland can’t afford to be as sloppy as they were in their defeat to Iceland even if their goalkeeping crisis was partially to blame, but that doesn’t excuse another sloppy defensive display.
In fact if they somehow lose this to the 205th-ranked team in FIFA rankings then it is hard to see how Clarke can stay on as manager because Scotland seemed to have just lost their spark, and a fresh manager might be needed if want a chance at World Cup qualification.
I however do see them somehow snatching this simply because of how poor Liechtenstein have been this year, but it shouldn’t disguise the improvements that they must make.
Prediction: Liechtenstein 0-2 Scotland
