Jorginho has departed Arsenal to join Flamengo on a free transfer after his contract was terminated early.
Jorginho’s contract was set to expire on 30 June when he would of been free to join Flamengo but the Brazilian side are set to feature in the FIFA Club World Cup this month, where they will meet the Italian’s former team – Chelsea in Group D along with Los Angeles FC and Tunis.
Arsenal however have announced that they’ve ‘reached a mutual agreement’ to terminate his contract early to allow him to participate in the tournament with Flamengo, with Jorginho having scored twice in 78 appearances across a two-and-a-half year spell in North London.
In their statement announcing Jorginho’s exit, Arsenal described the Italian as ‘a hugely respected member’ of the team through his ‘natural leadership skills, together with his control in midfield, intelligent positioning and extensive, high-quality passing,’ which made him ‘a valuable and integral part of the club.’
Jorginho has signed a three-year contract with Flamengo which will run until June 2028.
