Portugal look to ignite their knockout hopes against Italy in a massive Group B clash at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025.
Victory would see Portugal keep their knockout dreams alive, although they will be eliminated if they lose here and Spain beat Belgium.
Italy could go top of Group B if they better Spain’s result against Belgium.
Team News
Kika Nazareth is unlikely to be available for Portugal as she continues her recovery from an ankle injury.
Italy have no fresh injury concerns following their win over Belgium.
When is Kick-Off?
Portugal face Italy at Stade de Geneve, Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday 7 July at 9pm CEST (8pm UK Time), live on ITV1 and ITVX in the UK.
Stat Attack
- This is Portugal’s first meeting against Italy at UEFA Women’s Euro Finals.
- Italy have won six of eight previous meetings against Portugal in this competition – albeit in Qualifying stages rather than at main tournament (W6, L2).
- Portugal have won just one of seven previous group stage matches (W1, D1, L5).
- Since the Group Stage format was introduced in 1997, Italy have never won consecutive group matches.
Prediction
Having been utterly ripped apart by Spain in an emotional opening match to their campaign, Portugal now need to just reset and try to play with more attacking edge because they can’t afford to lose this – especially if Spain beat Belgium in the early game as defeat would eliminate them.
Italy meanwhile were absolutely dominant in their win over Belgium but often lacked a clinical final touch amidst their better end product, so more composure will be needed if they want to potentially wrap up qualification ahead of a difficult final group match against Spain.
Nevertheless both teams will have points to prove coming into this game but if Italy can just polish their final touches, I can see a routine win heading their way.
Prediction: Portugal 0-2 Italy
