Forward, Sam Dalby has departed Wrexham to join Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer.
Dalby spent this season on loan at Scottish Premiership’s Dundee United, where he scored 15 goals and two assists as the Tangerines finished fourth in Scotland’s top-flight to qualify for next season’s UEFA Conference League.
The 25-year-old however won’t be part of the squad next season despite leaving Wrexham on a free transfer, as he instead decided to join Bolton for his first proper full campaign in League One – having made just one appearance this season as Wrexham eventually won promotion to the Championship.
Dalby though had been part of Wrexham’s back-to-back promotion winning squad which achieved consecutive promotions from National League and League Two.
Dalby is “absolutely delighted” to join Bolton which he described as “a straightforward decision” following discussion with manager – Steven Schumacher.
“The ambition here is clear and the way the team is looking to progress is something I really wanted to be part of. I had a very positive season last year, and I’m eager to carry that momentum forward, contribute with goals and help the team achieve our objectives.
“Choosing Bolton Wanderers feels like the right move for my career, especially with the direction the club is heading. I can’t wait to get out on the pitch and perform for our fans.”
Schumacher added that he is “very pleased” to sign Dalby after the forward’s impressive season in Scotland, with Dalby eager to buy into his and Sporting Director – Fergal Harkin’s vision.
“Sam’s performances in Scotland last season spoke volumes about his capabilities. Crucially, he has really bought into the vision Fergal and I are building here at Bolton Wanderers.
“He gives us a different attacking profile with his physical presence and his eye for goal. At 25, he’s at an excellent age, with his best years ahead of him, and we’re excited to work with him and help him develop further.”
Schumacher proceeded to explain that he had been “looking for a player who could add a different dynamic to our frontline, and Sam fits that requirement perfectly.
“I am confident he has the mentality and the quality to make a real positive contribution, and I’m sure our supporters will be eager to see him play.”
Dalby’s contract will take official effect on 1 July 2025 once his contract at Wrexham expires on 30 June.
