Dakota Kai just hit fans with a major surprise—and it had nothing to do with an in-ring return.
The WWE Raw star revealed a bold new look on Instagram this week, ditching her signature straightened and often brightly dyed hair for her natural curls. And with it came a deeply personal message about self-acceptance, hair damage, and the road to recovery—both physically and emotionally.
“Surprise haha. In 2020, I had to cut all my natural hair to an inch 😳 I had been straightening and bleaching the sh!t out of my hair since high school and it took its toll,” Kai wrote in the caption. “I never loved my curly hair because I didn’t know how to look after it and I got teased for it growing up. @herhandstyles played the biggest part of helping it get healthy 🤍 I love her sm for that and I’m learning to love my hair too.”
The new look comes during an extended absence from WWE television. Kai hasn’t wrestled on Monday Night Raw since March 17, and her last televised match aired on WWE Main Event March 27. Her silence had fans speculating about a possible injury—especially with her Damage CTRL stablemates Kairi Sane and Asuka both confirmed to be sidelined.
But Dakota took to X/Twitter on April 29 to shut down the rumors with a short, direct post. “I miss wrestling and I miss you guys. Not hurt btw! 🫡” she wrote, confirming that her absence isn’t due to any physical issue.
So while the rest of Damage CTRL recovers, Kai is keeping herself in the conversation—with a fresh aesthetic and a reminder that she’s still here, just waiting on the green light to return.
Dakota Kai’s return might not have a date just yet, but she’s clearly staying active, positive, and ready for the next chapter—this time, embracing all of who she is.
