Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has been signed by English domestic side Yorkshire County Cricket Club for the remainder of the season, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
Gaikwad will join the Yorkshire squad ahead of its County Championship clash against Surrey at Scarborough in July. He will remain with the White Rose until the end of the season and will also be available for selection in the One Day Cup, which begins on August 5.
“The Yorkshire County Cricket Club is delighted to announce the overseas signing of Ruturaj Gaikwad,” the club said in a statement.
The top-order batter, who is currently part of India A’s squad for warm-up games, will stay on in England to link up with his new team.
“I’m excited to be joining Yorkshire for the rest of the English domestic season. It has always been a goal of mine to experience cricket in this country, and there is no bigger club in England than Yorkshire,” Gaikwad said.
A native of Pune, Gaikwad is the captain of both the five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings and the Maharashtra side in the Ranji Trophy. He has six ODI caps and 23 T20I appearances for India.
However, he missed the recently concluded IPL season due to an elbow injury.
