Cody Rhodes knows fans weren’t all thrilled with his WrestleMania showdown against John Cena—and now he’s putting the blame squarely on himself, promising to make it right at SummerSlam.
After winning the 2025 King of the Ring tournament, Rhodes earned his rematch for the Undisputed WWE Championship at this year’s two-night SummerSlam event in August. John Cena currently holds the gold after beating Rhodes at WrestleMania 41—a match that sparked mixed reactions from fans, especially after outside involvement from Grammy-nominated artist Travis Scott.
Speaking on Busted Open, Rhodes didn’t dodge the criticism. Instead, he took full ownership of the way some fans felt about his WrestleMania performance.
“SummerSlam, I don’t wanna go as far as making any promises, but I can tell you the goal with SummerSlam is if people felt a certain way about WrestleMania, I will put that all on my back and take all the credit and responsibility for perhaps not feeling satisfied.”
Rhodes made it clear he’s motivated to silence the doubters and deliver the match fans wanted the first time around.
“I’d like to get ‘em to the finish line with SummerSlam. Very much looking forward to doing this dance again.”
The rematch at SummerSlam is set to be one of the biggest bouts of the year, with Rhodes gunning for redemption and Cena looking to prove his WrestleMania win wasn’t a fluke.
