Ravichandran Ashwin put up an all-round performance to help Dindigul Dragons win TNPL 2025 Eliminator
Dindigul Dragons captain Ravichandran Ashwin led from the front, with both bat and ball, to power the side to a 6-wicket win against Trichy Grand Cholas in TNPL 2025 Eliminator. After a sub-par IPL 2025 season, the veteran has had a good run so far in TNPL, especially with the bat. His fine form spilt over to the clash against TGC as well, as he ensured that DGD were through to the Qualifier 2 with ease.
Ashwin shines with all-round performance in TNPL Eliminator
Ashwin struck thrice with the ball in the clash against Trichy, rattling their middle and lower-order batters. His first victim was R Rajkumar as he was sent packing for a four ball duck in the 11th over. Ashwin then removed a set Jafar Jamal (33) in the 19th over before making N Selva Kumaran his final prey two balls later. The Dindigul Dragons skipper finished with figures of 3/28 from his four overs.
Ashwin seems to have embraced the role of an opener well. Leading from the front in the run-chase, the veteran set the stage for DGD to successfully chase down 141 runs with 3.2 overs to spare. Ashwin’s 83-run knock was studded with 11 fours and 3 sixes, striking at 172.92. He narrowly missed out staying till the end to take his team across the line as he was forced to depart when DGD needed just 11 runs to win. He was named the Player of the Match for his all-round performance.
So far in TNPL 2025, Ashwin has amassed 275 runs and 12 wickets from 8 matches. He is the fifth highest run-getter in the ongoing season and the fourth highest wicket-taker. Ashwin’s Dragons will next take on Chepauk Super Gillies in Qualifier 2 on July 4 in a bid to seal their berth in the final.
