Kylian Mbappe has made his first appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup for Real Madrid. He came on as a substitute in their 1-0 win against Juventus on Tuesday.
This was Mbappe’s return after being seriously ill. The French star had been in hospital with a stomach virus, which caused him to lose 5kg and miss Real Madrid’s first match against Al Hilal.
He played the last 22 minutes of the quarter-final in Miami, helping the team reach the next round. Even though he’s not yet fully fit, his return gave a big boost to the squad as they continue their campaign in the United States.
Mbappe’s message to fans
After the match, Mbappe posted a message on social media to thank the fans:
“Quarterfinals here we come. So happy to be back with the squad after that difficult time. Thank you to all the fans in Miami for the support, I felt so loved here. See you in NYC. ¡HalaMadrid!”
Real Madrid now prepare to face Borussia Dortmund in the semi-final on Saturday at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
