Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the second Test against England at the Edgbaston in Birmingham, India captain Shubman Gill confirmed on Wednesday.
Since India’s defeat in the opening Test last Tuesday, Bumrah has largely stayed away from intense sessions and was notably absent from Edgbaston on the eve of the match.
In his absence, Akash Deep — who made a striking debut by dismantling England’s top order on the first morning in Ranchi last February — is the frontrunner to step into the playing XI.
India has made three changes for the second Test: Sai Sudharsan has been dropped for Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar replaces Shardul Thakur, and Akash Deep comes in for the rested Bumrah, with Karun Nair likely to slot in at No. 3.
