India vs Pakistan on September 7, Asia Cup 2025 begins on Sep 5

The Asia Cup 2025 is reportedly expected to commence from September 5 onwards and will see India and Pakistan lock horns at least twice. Earlier, reports claimed that the fixtures for the Asia Cup would be finalized when the ACC convenes later this month. Asia Cup will see six teams in participation – India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and the UAE – with UAE serving as co-hosts.

Asia Cup to start on Sep 5

As per Times of India, the schedule for the 17-day long tournament has almost been finalized, with the opening clash set to take place on September 5 and the final on September 21. The report states that India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan for the first time on September 7 and the next probably on September 14. Further, the report states that most member nations are close to securing go-aheads from their respective governments to take part in Asia Cup 2025.

The tournament is set to follow a group stage followed by Super Fours format. Asia Cup and ICC events are the only platform in which India take on Pakistan. Earlier, reports claimed that the Asia Cup would begin on September 10, with India vs Pakistan clash scheduled to take place on September 12.

BCCI awaiting approval

India’s participation in the Asia Cup is yet to be ascertained following the simmering tensions between the country and Pakistan over the recent months. Last month, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia denied rumours that India won’t feature in the 8-team tournament. InsideSport had learnt that the BCCI is awaiting a response from the Indian government when it comes to participation in the Asia Cup 2025.

“There is no discussion or even a remote thought about boycotting matches. We play Pakistan in the ICC events and it will go on if our government doesn’t say otherwise. As for the Asia Cup, we will know in the coming days,” a BCCI official told InsideSport.
