Arsenal have signed goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea. The Spanish player, who once cost a record €80 million, will now serve as back-up to Arsenal’s number one, David Raya.
According to Pulse Sports, Arsenal paid Chelsea about €5.8 million for Kepa, and he has signed a contract that runs until 2028. The club confirmed the news on their official website.
Kepa: “I’m Here to Win”
Kepa said he is very happy to join the Gunners and believes the team is close to winning trophies under manager Mikel Arteta. He said:
“I’m really happy to be here, excited and looking forward to what’s next. When I spoke with Mikel and Inaki [goalkeeping coach], I saw how much they want to win. I think we’re close, and I hope we can do it together.”
A Risky Signing?
Kepa, now 30, joined Chelsea from Athletic Club for a record fee, but struggled to keep his starting place. He was later loaned out to Real Madrid and Bournemouth. Some fans see this as another risky signing from Chelsea, like Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz, and Willian — all of whom had mixed success after leaving the Blues.
More Moves Coming?
Meanwhile, Arsenal are also said to be interested in Chelsea winger Noni Madueke. Reports say the Gunners want him as a back-up for Bukayo Saka or to compete for a spot on the left wing.
