Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora and outfielder Jarren Duran were ejected late in Sunday’s game against the San Francisco Giants after they were unhappy with a controversial replay ruling.
The Red Sox were trailing 8-5 in the bottom of the eighth inning at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California, when Duran led off with what appeared to be a double to right field. Duran made it to second in plenty of time, but he overslid and his hand briefly came off the bag.
Giants shortstop Willy Adames tagged Duran on the hand, and Duran was called out. The play was then reviewed to see whether Duran got back to the bag in time.
The call on the field stood, which infuriated Duran. He said something to the umpire on his way to the dugout and was ejected. Cora then came out to state his case and was thrown out of the game as well.
