Sheffield United entertain play-off chasing Blackburn on the final day of 2024-25 Championship season.
Sheffield Utd will finish third regardless of the result, but Blackburn need to win and hope that Coventry and Millwall both lose if they’re to stand any chance of securing a play-off spot.
Team News
Ben Brereton Diaz is ruled out for Sheffield Utd due to illness which has prevented him from training this week.
Oliver Arblaster (ACL), Rhys Norrington-Davies (groin) and Jamie Shackleton (foot) remain ruled out.
Blackburn could welcome Makhtar Gueye back after he missed their win over Watford with a head injury.
Owen Beck (hamstring), Hayden Carter (calf), Andreas Weimann (knee) and Scott Wharton (ACL) remain on the sidelines.
When is Kick-Off?
Sheffield Utd meet Blackburn on Saturday 3 May at Bramall Lane in a 12:30pm BST kick-off, live on Sky Sports+ Red Button in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Sheffield Utd have won three of their last five meetings against Blackburn (W3, L2).
- Blackburn have claimed just one point in their last six league visits to Sheffield Utd (D1, L5).
- Sheffield Utd have kept clean sheets in their last five league games at home to Blackburn.
- Gustavo Hamer has scored in two of Sheffield Utd’s last three home games (W2, L1).
- Blackburn have won each of their last two away games by 1-0 results at Luton and Sunderland respectively.
Prediction
Although there is nothing left for Sheffield Utd to play for on the final day, they will be keen to continue preparing for the play-offs off the back of a clinical away win at Stoke where they were the more dominant team if frustrated in the final touches at times.
Blackburn though have found form at the right time with four straight wins to put themselves in with a chance at nicking a play-off spot, yet this is probably the worse away trip imaginable for them given what is at stake and their poor form at Bramall Lane.
I however do think that Blackburn will have the extra motivation with a play-off spot at stake but Sheffield Utd should really have enough spark to grind out a draw to give themselves a base to go into the play-offs with.
Prediction: Sheffield Utd 1-1 Blackburn
